    Comfort

Bose earbuds and in-ear headphones are known for their wearing comfort and the pair used in this review is no different. While many in ear designs are uncomfortable or have a less than ideal fit, either falling out of your ears or feeling too tight, the SoundTrue Ultra features StayHear tips which create a fit that is both secure and comfortable to wear for hours at a time.

They don’t feel like most in-ear headphones. Even the most comfortable in ears take some getting used to and you always notice they are in your ears, but these feel like they’re not even there.

This is due to their incredibly lightweight, compact design and the ultra-comfortable StayHear tips. The tips come in small, medium, and large so you can choose the right fit. They are truly some of the most comfortable in ear headphones you will find.

The cable contains an innovative design and a T-joint which keeps the headphones still when you’re moving. If you’ve used headphones which have a sort of rustling feel to them when you are running or exercising, you know how irritating this can be. The T-joint and cable design of the SoundTrue Ultra prevents this from happening and makes for a much more enjoyable wearing experience.

    Durability

The headphones are small but are built with extra durability and designed for active lifestyles. They are sweat and weather resistant, making them a great choice for exercising.

The headphone cord is not as thick as those on other models but it is well made, durable, and doesn’t tangle. I do wish it had a 90 degree angle end, as opposed to a straight end, but this is a minimal complaint.

A small and portable case is also included to protect your headphones when not in use.

Overall, this is a great pair to buy if you are looking for durably designed in ear headphones.

    Features

The Bose Sound True Ultra comes in two models: one designed for Android phones and the other for iOS phones. Each includes a three button inline remote, plus a built in microphone.

The built in microphone allows you to take calls and give voice commands to your smartphone. The mic works particularly well, providing clear audio to the person on the other end of the call. I also love that the noise isolating design of the headphones allows you to clearly hear the person you are talking to, even in noisy environments.

The three button remote allows you to control important functions without having to reach for your device. You can adjust volume, answer and end calls, give voice commands, and control other music and video functions directly through your headphones.

An additional important feature is the built in noise isolation you get from these headphones. There are two types of noise isolation: active cancellation and passive isolation. These feature passive isolation which blocks outside noise due to the design and fit of the headphone.

With a great fit, outside noise is effectively reduced, allowing you to listen to music at lower volumes. This reduces ear fatigue and helps to protect your hearing. An added bonus is the clarity with which you can hear others when taking calls through the built in microphone.

    Sound

In this review, I listened to a wide variety of music through the SoundTrue Ultra and was impressed with the results. It’s not audiophile level sound, but then again, that is not their purpose. They are designed to be an on the go headphone with great sound, and in this they excel.

The earbuds feature a tight bass, which is powerful but not hyped or overbearing, a clear and pleasing midrange, and crystal clear highs. You get to experience the full immersion of sound that Bose is known for. Because of the noise isolating design, nothing gets between you and your music.

I also love that you don’t have to crank the headphone volume in order to drown outside noise. The design of the headphones does this for you.

In a wide variety of music they performed well, whether rock, hip hop, or classical. This is the mark of a good headphone.

Our Verdict on Bose SoundTrue Ultra

If you’re looking to buy a small and compact headphone which is comfortable to wear and doesn’t feel like most in ear designs, the Bose SoundTrue Ultra is a great choice. This is an especially great pair of headphones for exercise and gym use. With durable, sweat proof and weatherproof construction, comfortable wearability, and a design that doesn’t rustle like other in-ear models, they are great for active lifestyles.

I especially love the noise isolation of this model. Compared to many other models I have reviewed, these do an excellent job of keeping sound in and outside noise out.

Bose SoundTrue Ultras are the perfect blend of earbud and in-ear headphone designs. Earbud headphones are comfortable to wear but too much outside noise gets in. This is especially annoying when you’re at the gym and you can hear the gym’s sound system, even with your earbuds playing.

In-ear headphones block outside noise but are often uncomfortable to wear, either too tight or too loose.

The SoundTrue Ultra combines the excellent outside noise attenuation qualities of in-ear headphones with the wearing comfort of earbuds. Couple this with excellent sound and you have a great set of headphones for exercise, as well as everyday, on the go use.
