The Ghostek soDrop 2 headphones features soft padded earpads which feel great on your ears, as well as an adjustable padded headband for a perfect fit. When you first see the design it appears that they may not fit over your ears since they have more of a square shape than most headphones. But after putting them on, I found that they fit extremely well and were comfortable to wear.
I like the brushed aluminum construction, as well as the leather headband and pads—features I wouldn’t have expected on an item of this price.
The design is sleek and feels well-built and durable. Some will love the more modern design, while others may prefer a more traditional design. Either way, this headphone is built well enough to withstand the rigors of normal, everyday use.
Features of Ghostek soDrop 2 Headphones
If you’re looking at the Ghostek soDrop2, you obviously are looking for a Bluetooth pair of headphones. That being said, you want Bluetooth on a budget but you also want good sound quality and a reliable, easy to pair connection. In this regard, the soDrop2 excels. Pairing couldn’t be easier and once paired the first time, repairing is as simple as can be.
The Ghostek soDrop2 features a stable and easy to pair aptX Bluetooth 4.0 connection with a range of 30 feet. Battery life is a long 14 hours of continuous use but in the even that you forget to charge or if you run out of power, you can simply connect the included 3.5mm cable and use the soDrop2 as a wired set of headphones.
Please note that battery powered features such as onboard controls and the built in mic will not work when used in wired mode. When charging is required, simply connect the included micro USB cable for easy recharging.
A built in microphone is also included for taking calls. I found the microphone to be clear and easy for the person on the other end of the call to understand. You can easily switch between listening to music and accepting a call with the touch of a button. Onboard controls allow you to take and end calls without removing your headphones.
The closed back design of the Ghostek soDrop means that very little sound leaks out and not much sound gets in. This is great in that it gives you excellent passive noise isolation. If you’re listening in a quiet area such as a library, you won’t have to worry about the sound leaking out and disturbing others.
On the other hand, if you are in a busy or noisy area, the closed back design does a great job of reducing outside noise. This allows you to listen to music at lower levels since the music doesn’t have to be turned up to compensate for outside volume.
Onboard controls allow you to turn the volume up or down, control music, and take or end calls right from the headphone. The controls are easy to reach and navigate, even with the headphones on.
Another great feature of the Ghostek soDrop2 is its unique, modern design. While wearing these headphones people will ask what they are and where you go them. They definitely have an attention getting look.
How do Ghostek soDrop 2 Headphones Sound?
In terms of sound quality, there is a lot to like about the Ghostek soDrop2. During my review I found them to have deep, powerful bass. The bass is prominent but not overbearing and is hyped without being overly hyped. You get plenty of bass, but I wouldn’t go as far as calling it a bass oriented headphone.
The mids are impressive too. Regardless of the type of music, the mids come through clearly and distinctly without being scooped or muddy. This is definitely a plus for a headphone in this price range.
The highs are good as well; clean and clear without being overly sibilant or brittle. One must keep in mind that this is not an audiophile set of headphones. Don’t expect the depth, flat response, and perfect stereo image of a fine set of audiophile headphones. For the price, however, they sound really good and are fun to listen to. If you’re on a budget and want a good sounding, well made set of Bluetooth headphones, the Ghostek soDrop2 is an excellent choice.
Our Verdict on Ghostek soDrop 2
With its stable Bluetooth connection and good overall sound quality, the Ghostek soDrop2 is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a quality budget pair of Bluetooth headphones. I also like its modern design and look. The wearing comfort was a plus as well.
While audiophile level headphones are great, they are quite an investment. Many people want the freedom of Bluetooth wireless without the price tag. For those people, the soDrop2 is a great option. While the sound quality isn’t on par with some of the more expensive pairs I have reviewed, they still sound good and are fun to listen to. They are also well built and designed to last, another nice plus in the budget category.
