Jlab Epic 2 Review

Jlab Epic-2 Review

For those who want a good pair of wireless Bluetooth in ear headphones at a great price, the J Lab Epic 2 is a great buy. With a long battery life, good overall sound, a built in mic, and onboard controls, the Epic 2 offers plenty of bang for the buck.

More and more people are making the move to wireless Bluetooth headphones. While there is some reduction in sound quality, Bluetooth earphones make up for this in portability and freedom of movement.

While I love audiophile headphones, I still prefer Bluetooth headphones at the gym, as well during other on the go activities. The freedom wireless gives me is more than worth a little loss of audio quality due to Bluetooth compression.

Pros: IP55 sweat proof and weatherproof; lots of features; great price; long battery life; good overall sound.

The J Lab Epic 2 is a comfortable to wear pair of earphones. The Memory Wire design is lightweight and flexible. Included are a pair of ear wings which help the phones to stay put when exercising or running. Plus, eight gel ear tips are included so you can choose the perfect fit.

It is definitely worth taking the time to try different tips and find which works best for you. Finding the right fit helps the J Lap Epic 2 to stay in place and also creates a better frequency response, especially in the bass frequencies.

J Lab’s triple flange custom fit ear tips are an industry first. If you have smaller ears, check out the shallow fit tip. Overall, there are enough tips and options to find a great fit. Once that fit is found, this is a pair of Bluetooth earphones that you will enjoy wearing.

If you have never used this type of in-ear wireless design, you may find they take a bit of getting used to. They don’t feel uncomfortable, just different. Before long, though, they become comfortable and you don’t even notice they’re in your ears.

Durability is on par with most other Bluetooth in ear headphones in this price range. They are certainly not military grade or anything like that, but they feature a build quality that is on par with most other products in this price range.

One durability feature that I found especially helpful while using the review model was the IP55 weather and dust resistant design. This means they are sweat proof, rain proof, and can withstand water being splashed on them from all sides.

This is a great feature since many will be using these for exercise use and don’t want to worry about sweat damaging their earphones. When you’re done with your workout, simply rinse them off so they will be ready for their next use.

The J Lab Epic 2 features a wireless Bluetooth connection that is both easy to pair and stable once connected. The upgraded Bluetooth antenna uses Beacon Signal Technology which provides a skip-free listening experience. AptX technology provides increased Bluetooth audio quality. Bluetooth range is about 30 feet.

The Epic 2 also features a long 12 hour battery life. I loved this feature in the review model because you don’t have to charge often. But when it’s time to recharge, charging is easy.

A built in microphone and built in controls allow you to make and receive calls and give commands to your smartphone. The controls work with both iOS and Android systems.

The built in controls allow you to perform functions without reaching for your phone or other device. The controls are a little small, but they are on all wireless in ear earphones. It may take a while to get the feel of the controls, especially if using them without taking the earphones off.

Once you get the feel, however, you’ll be able to adjust volume, take calls, and skip tracks with ease.

J Lab Epic 2’s feature C3 technology (Crystal Clear Clarity), giving you clean, clear sound through 8mm drivers.

The Epic 2 isn’t audiophile quality, but it’s not designed to be. It’s designed to be an on the go pair of wireless earphones for exercise and other activities for the active lifestyle. Still, the earphones sound good for the price.

There’s a good amount of bass. It’s not hyped or boosted, but it is certainly there, with enough bass power to energize your workout.

The highs are clean and clear without noticeable distortion. The Epic 2 isn’t the loudest headphone I’ve tried. There is enough volume on tap for most any use, but there are plenty of other models which are louder.

The sound is not flat or well balanced, but most all wireless Bluetooth in ear headphones are not either. They have a fun sound, however, that works well on a wide range of material.

Whether you are listening to dance music, rock, or even a podcast or audiobook, the J Lab Epic 2 will deliver quality sound for your on the go lifestyle.

Our Verdict on Jlab Epic 2

If you’re looking to buy a set of wireless Bluetooth in-ear headphones at a great price, the J Lab Epic 2 is definitely worth considering.

They are comfortable to wear and I especially like the additional ear tips and ear wing options. Also, you get a long 12 hour battery life and a stable, skip free Bluetooth connection.

Add in a built in microphone, onboard controls, and great sound for the price, and you have a set of Bluetooth earphones that are perfect for gym use, exercise use, and every day on the go use. Plus, the IP55 weather and sweat resistant design means they will stand up to active
